Anti climb fencing installed to prevent children playing on building site

It is alleged that children are risking their lives by playing on three dangerous building sites on Trowbridge estate in Wiltshire.

The estates’ Building Site Manager along with the police have been warning parents a fatal accident could happen if the youngsters continue to climb and jump from scaffolding.

Mr Smith, from a Westbury-based property maintenance firm stated: “We use fall arrests which are like giant bean bags and the children are climbing on scaffolding before leaping off into them as if it is some kind of game. They don’t realise just how these sites can be extremely dangerous places.”

The builders have now erected more anti climb fencing to help prevent children entering the site.

Secure Site fencing hire needed to prevent vandals entering old paper mill

An old paper mill site in Otley, West Yorkshire is gradually being ‘demolished’ by thieves and vandals, leading to calls for site fencing hire to be ordered and installed.

Many want the site to be sealed off to prevent further “unauthorised demolition”, as well as possible accidents.

The buildings have been empty for several years, with a 236-home redevelopment approved by Leeds planners last year, though the work is yet to start.

With residents concerned about the number of people – especially children – entering the old industrial site, there have been discussions regarding site fencing to prevent trespassing.

“We have been looking at a permanent fencing of the site, although it would mean diverting a public footpath and we’re exploring this option at the moment,” said Richard Whitehorn, a consultant surveyor for Otley Riverside Holdings, who are in charge of the redevelopment.

Property firm fined for lack of site fencing

A property firm has been prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for putting its workers at risk after allowing them to work in an excavation without safety measures.

HSE inspectors made an unannounced visit to the site on Trafford Road, Alderley Edge in August 2010 where Huntmere were developing a luxury five bedroom mansion.

The HSE inspectors issued an immediate Prohibition Notice, ordering two workers to leave the excavation until the site had been made safe.

Macclesfield Magistrates’ Court heard no barriers or site fencing had been erected to keep vehicles away from the edge, or prevent workers being injured in a fall.

Structural support was not provided to the sides of the excavation pit, which were partly made of soft clay, and the sides had not been sufficiently battered back to a safe angle.

Track marks showed a digger had been driven along the rim of the excavation, which increased the risk of it collapsing or the vehicle falling into the pit with the lack of fencing.

Huntsmere pleaded guilty to breaching regulations by failing to prevent workers being put in danger. The company was fined £3,000 and ordered to pay £3,837 in prosecution costs.

Keeping your workers secure with safety fencing

When on site safety is always of paramount importance, be it protecting the public with safety fencing to avoid them clambering through your site with a risk of injury or worse, to protecting your workers from the hazards they face working on a busy site for example machines, pits or dangerous ground to name a few.
Make sure you have adequate safety fencing in place and avoid any dangers in the workplace.
