A fence has been installed at Wimbledon’s centre court in a bid to keep out foxes.

The court will be used more than ever this summer, with the Olympics and Wimbledon Championships taking place within weeks of each other.

A spokesperson said foxes are attracted to the courts as they are warmer but are frightened off when the courts become busy with activity.

The metal fence will be removed six weeks prior to the Wimbledon Championships and will go back up again in September in the hope of ensuring the courts maximum recovery.

Freak weather in Witney, Oxfordshire caused mass damage across the town, with fences completely blown apart.

Reports of tornado-like weather and sheet rain were received around the north and west of the county, including Witney, Eynsham, Bicester and Kidlington.

It seems that the area’s council and residents will need to organise fence hire while repairs are being seen to. Local resident, Jim Baxendale, said the weather had caused damage all along the road he lives on.

He said: “It’s ripped fences up and ripped slates off the roofs. The lady next door said it was like a tornado.”

Swansea City Football Club long-awaited centre of excellence is expected to be completed soon after demolition work was carried out at the site in Landore, Swansea.

The club gained planning permission in February to knock down the existing pavilion at the former RTB ground and build temporary changing facilities and install new fencing.

Construction fencing is now up with work starting soon — the club said they aim to complete this work as soon as possible.

It is alleged that children are risking their lives by playing on three dangerous building sites on Trowbridge estate in Wiltshire.

The estates’ Building Site Manager along with the police have been warning parents a fatal accident could happen if the youngsters continue to climb and jump from scaffolding.

Mr Smith, from a Westbury-based property maintenance firm stated: “We use fall arrests which are like giant bean bags and the children are climbing on scaffolding before leaping off into them as if it is some kind of game.They don’t realise just how these sites can be extremely dangerous places.”

The builders have now erected more anti climb fencing to help prevent children entering the site.

Police in Hull have issued a fresh appeal for information regarding the alleged theft of metal fencing from Bude Park.

It is alleged that over 60 foot of metal fencing was taken from the park by metal thieves between the hours 6.30pm on March 20 and 9am on March 21.

Police suspect a vehicle was used to remove the fencing which had been used to separate the sports area and flower gardens.

Police are being urged to probe crowd safety at Alfreton Town FC’s stadium following trouble with supporters during a match against Grimsby Town.

The court heard that fans kicked and pushed temporary safety fencing segregating rival supporters on the Alma Street enclosure on January 7.

Presiding magistrate David Sobjak said: “We are very concerned about the adequacy of the segregation. The fencing was flimsy and, had it given way, there could have been a much more serious incident. We would appreciate it if the police would speak to Alfreton Town Football Club about supporter safety.”

A controversial footpath through Ridgeway School in Plympton, Plymouth has taken a new twist after the Council approved plans to install a perimeter fence.

The school originally asked the council to remove the footpath, known as Geasons Lane, saying the path was at the centre of antisocial behaviour and hampered efforts to improve security.

However, it now seems that the Council believe metal metal fencing hire was placed around the path will be the answer.

The issue became the subject of a public inquiry as the battle waged for over 30 years between Ridgeway School, local residents and access campaign groups.

Alison Evison, the Scottish Labour Candidate for North Kincardine, has been acting on the concerns of Hillside residents about safety of a footpath in the area.

Many children use the path on their way to school and some have been seen to play on bicycles and with balls in the area.

There is no safety fencing separating the path from the busy A90 and parents are concerned that an accident could easily happen.
Recent fog emphasised the potential for a disaster at the location.

Alison Evison commented: “Safety should always be a prime concern. Yet it seems to have been overlooked in this case. When the planning brief for Hillside was originally produced, there was much talk about ‘Safer routes to school’.”

Scrap metal thieves are being blamed for the theft of fencing from a park in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.

Residents were stunned to find six metal panels and two metal posts had been removed from the recreational area that is popular within the local area.

Shelby Powell, who lives on the estate, said: “The posts have been ripped out, even though they were concreted in, and at least two visits have been made. We think they are being taken for their scrap metal value.

“It’s a real disappointment as it’s a popular area with play equipment and a large field for youngsters to enjoy as well as a popular dog walking route.”

Mark Peters, chairman of Wheatpieces Parish Council, confirmed that the suspicions regarding the theft: “Having spoken to the police, they believe people may be stealing these things for scrap metal. If it had been vandals, you would have expected to have found the items quite close by.”

Mr Peters said the borough council would pay for the metal fencing to be repaired.

A metal fence is to be put up around the site of the proposed new Tesco superstore in Cupar, Fife.

The land will remain vacant until at least January, when the supermarket giant will review its plans for the much-delayed store.

It is believed that the company will use heras fencing to secure the site.

Tesco’s corporate affairs manager, Douglas Wilson, said: “We will be fencing and securing the site shortly and cleaning up the litter on the site at the same time.”
